Three years ago I had never used a large format camera apart from watching my dad using his father’s half plate camera. I was fascinated by the roller blind shutter screwed onto the front of the lens , mesmerised by the brass and mahogany and even at the tender age of 10, blown away by […]
Manic weeks and magic drum scanning
The past week has been manic. I took 8 5×4 Portra 400 negatives into Metro Imaging a week ago Tuesday for drum scanning having failed to get the right colour reproduction on inkjet media at UCS. Whether this failure was due to me or the multiple layers of technology that these superb quality […]
Four weeks and counting
Four weeks from now the bulk of our Lux Locus Degree show should be built. We open for the VIP view on the evening of 5th June. The next VIP night is 12th June in Free Range, London. All in all, these shows, London being the most expensive, have set us back £11,000 but such […]
Neglected viewpoint
There has been so much going on lately that I have not been yomping into UCS at my usual times. Over the last 3 years I have walked a more or less similar route into UCS and crossing over Bond Street, I always look back over my shoulder to see if the doors are open […]
Maybe it is time to stop now….
The sands of time are rapidly exhausting themselves and new deadlines loom large on the horizon. Following a full-on week topped by Andreas Schmidt honouring us with a guest lecture I am now looking at final edits and print preparation. Throw in an interim show to hang in April plus prepping 90 8’x4′ boards for […]
Self Published Books – Edgelands
I have used Blurb several times now to create books and the products are very good indeed. Every time I make one though I know I can make it better. I suppose it is just like making the photographs in the first place, one has to do it to the point unconscious competence. Edgelands by […]
Constable Country – Turner Sky?
I tried to make the best of the near still conditions yesterday morning, the calmest weather for over a month, to shoot some large format work at my current project locations. As with all things like this the wind or lack of it was perfect but the light at Freston Hill and Cattawade was dreary […]
Quiet January – so far
Blogging has been low on my agenda these past 16 days. To be honest, I was utterly exhausted by the time Christmas arrived what with all the planned and unplanned events during December but also to do with a full on first semester of my final year at UCS. Something had to give and I […]
Vegetation – Anyone know what this plant is?
One of the plants I am currently photographing is foxing me. This plant is growing on contaminated ex-factory ground and to all intents and purposes, it looks drought resistant judging by the silvery hairy leaves. What type of plant is it? It seems to be quite frost reistant so far also.
Strange week
The past week has been full on and utterly exhausting. What with hanging the Trafalgar show at Prettys and the scary incident of a 24 year old fellow student working on the hang suffering a stroke, fitting in a 6 hour shooting day for Edgelands, researching for degree project and dissertation I feel wrung out. […]
