Largest ship in the world berths at Felixstowe

I went on a recce this afternoon along the Eastern edges of Ipswich looking for Edgelands sites.

It was grim in terms of weather and nothing was stimulating my photography buds so I hoofed it down to Felixstowe to see if anything was in at Landguard. Well, I’ve never seen so much traffic. I was turned away by a policeman from driving down to Landguard and there was a mass exodus of vehicles coming away from there. I doubled back wondering what was going on and parked up in an almost deserted car park abeam of the Custom House. I could then see a behemoth of a vessel alongside the deep water berth at Landguard. The cranes were shufflng down the quayside in a manner not unlike a Channel 4 news preamble video.

As luck would have it it was blowing up a stiff breeze and precipitation was within sight and covering my spectacles.

These are a couple of grim looking shots from this afternoon. I hope to get some more imaginative images made over the next 12 hours.

How this thing navigates around the world with 19,000 containers on board is anyone’s guess.
