Yesterday was a long day. I as up at 0430 to hoof it down to Ashford. In some ways I was glad of the excuse to let the train take the strain especially after ruining the tyre on Monday. I do not like driving with a space saver other than back and forth to the garage.
I was on the second train out at 0544 with plenty of time to make the connection at St Pancras for the high speed link to Ashford International. Chained up pianos were having their ivories tinkled as I hoofed it through St Pancras with 30 seconds to spare after overrunning engineering works between Shenfield and Ilford. Just how many times do Network rail undertake overnight engineering works and how many times do they overrun?
It is perverse that my trip to Ashford was about project management and here I was almost missing my connection because Network Rail can either not have planned properly to undertake the repair or failed to plan to fail.
Anyway, I like the HSL and I was able to see more Edgelands from the window but my, were they grim in the dull light that can only come from a dull February morning in locations that I dare say are grim on a sunny day. I was carrying a light load yesterday so it was the turn of the iPAD. These are the most colourful of my blurred vision on the trip down.
