Black and White challenge – day 5

I agonised over what to post for this final image but finally settled on the Rural Idyll image. This was made at sunrise in June 2013 near Waldringfield. I had spotted this contraption during a winter’s drive when I decided to take a different route home from Woodbridge. After that I could not remember where I saw it but I eventually retraced my steps and came upon it again. I was lucky as within days it had gone. I shot medium format colour negatives at the same time but this was made on the Toyo 45C using Adox CHS Art 100 film. This film is very different to my normal use of HP5+ or FP4. The emulsion is very silver rich and provides an immense tonal range. Adox claim they put the grey back into Black and White.

The incongruity of such a structure smack in the middle of AONB designated land is an example of one rule for one and one rule for others, something that seems to be a repeating message as I have sat on jury service over the last two weeks. This was an early reference shot for my Edgelands series when I was focused onĀ  the AONB aspects of my project. I was in two minds whether to shoot B&W or colour. In the end I went down the colour route. This is still one of my favourite non-published images.
