I thought of Ian Moss

As I was cycling around this morning make pictorial notes of research sites for more in-depth studies I discovered this relic and immediately thought of Ian Moss, not that he is in any way a relic, but rather I think, this is something he might be drawn (sic) to.

These are just pictorial notes. The subject, if still as static as it appeared today, is there in ideal conditions I shall record it on large format Kodak Portra.

  1. Very nice to be thought of on such a cold and frosty morning.

You were right – my kind of dereliction. Where I grew up, there were boats nicely rotting away in the river creeks (River Blackwater), and my first studio was on one of those creeks with view out to Osea Island and ancient (incredible[!]) hulks small and large all around. Hopefully, it’s still like that there.

There’s something about old boats that have been left to nature. Like old houses – and of course, the docks; echoes of a past long gone. My many ‘nautical’ ancestors would have seen all of this in its heyday, all along the east coast. Perhaps they knew that boat; its owner, even … That’s my link – so, as I said; very much my thing.

    Thanks Tom.

  2. .. and of course … as you well know … Moss gets everywhere in the end …

  3. Registered in Shoreham Ian. I saw the moss before I saw the vessel as I cycled round the corner. As you say Moss gets everywhere in the end! I just hope the frost we had overnight will not have burnt the verdant growth by the time I get back there tomorrow.
