Abbot’s and cake

The weather this morning was just about right for a few large format images at one of my new locations. The light was flatter than I expected but hey-ho, I’ll just have to wait for the Portra to get to the lab and back.

I snook the D810 out with me and whilst the tripod was still up after taking down the Toyo 45A and 135mm I popped this one into the can. I am still shooting this camera in 5×4 mode. Ideally I ought to have waited until the sun was a bit higher. This was 50 minutes after sunrise. I expect the Portra to be quite sombre images.

This image looks quite cold compared to those made last week on Portra 400 but that was a couple of hours later than this morning. In truth, it was quite cold and as with all cloud cover, the impact on colour saturation is significant.

It was a late breakfast for me once I got back. It amazes me how much traffic there is just before 0900. I have always been a pre-dawn riser and traveller. I’m glad I can get out of bed for sunrises. It is the best time of every day.

Given that we were dished out the best weather it would seem for the entire country we decided to take elevenses in Stowmarket. I took Mrs O  over to Stowmarket to The Museum of East Anglian Life. There is an embroidery exhibition on and it was delightful. I especially liked the blue Dorset button. Mrs O does a lot of needle and knitting work and she enjoyed the Abbot’s Hall exhibition. The Hall is free entry and after wandering around the building we headed over for cake and espresso in the Osier cafe. Very nice.

If you have not been over to the Museum, you ought to give it a go. The building and people are charming. The estate is huge but it was good to see a dusting of snow in the walled garden. I do like a walled garden.

Watch this space for more news on the Abbot’s Hall.
