Bitterly cold, bitterly disappointed

I have watched the weather forecasts with glee over this past week seeing that today would have a high sitting over us therefore perfect windless conditions to get the large format cameras out. The dark slides were loaded up yesterday and it was an early bedtime to make sure I was up at 0530 and out asap to my location.

As is my want I double checked the weather reports along my route and was cheered that there was some broken cloud at my destination. I like a bit of cloud but I want it on my terms.

Anyhow, I got on location by 0730 and I just knew I would not get the big cameras out. There was just no point in wasting £50 on film and another £50 on C41 processing so I elected to shoot digitally. Every visit to this site has been different but not only was the light dire on my subject, it was not pumping out the massive plume I had expected. Although to be fair the vertically rising water vapour from the cooling towers would not have warranted a good plume to photograph.

Still, I persevered as I would marvel in seeing the sunrise even it it did not do as I wanted.

As I waited, willing the light to bounce off the cloud base, I was lucky to watch two Muntjac lollop across the field in front of me. One gaily lolloped across the breadth of the field whilst the second one sensed my presence and doubled back. Such a delight to just stand and watch.

I’m quite pleased with the second image but I’m going to have to burn much more fuel to be there when the drier is pumping out tons of water vapour with the right sky and the right wind direction. When it is right then the Portra 5×4 will see the light of day.
