Bill Brandt’s words of wisdom as pertinent today as when he uttered them

Mrs O and I take the Guardian of a weekend along with a Murdoch paper. It is all about balance. I like the Review section of the Guardian particularly and it takes me a week to read it mainly as I munch through my toast and quaff a pot full of espresso.

Anyway yesterday morning saw me turning the pages and an almost double page on the photography of writers by William Dalrymple caught my eye ‘ Seeing the light’

Newspaper article from the Guardian.

He goes on to quote Bill Brandt. I don’t recall studying his work in any detail at all. I was aware of him but somehow he passed me by. Reading through this article was very interesting indeed and as with everything to do with photography, it has nearly always been done before. The column here resonated with me and my approach to my medium format Edgelands images. I tried to retain a way of seeing from my 9 year-old self. I had never seen this quote before.

Equally valid is this quote:

another quote from a newspaper

Such wise words and so pertinent.

I must look up some of his work and reflect.
