Time is a strange dimension. Academic years are a strange dimension. Seasons are strange dimensions. Even when I was a spotty faced youth attending Grammar school back in the 60’s and early 70’s the Autumn term (we had terms in those days) always seemed the longest and after the New Year everything ran downhill rather […]
Quiet January – so far
Blogging has been low on my agenda these past 16 days. To be honest, I was utterly exhausted by the time Christmas arrived what with all the planned and unplanned events during December but also to do with a full on first semester of my final year at UCS. Something had to give and I […]
Vegetation – Anyone know what this plant is?
One of the plants I am currently photographing is foxing me. This plant is growing on contaminated ex-factory ground and to all intents and purposes, it looks drought resistant judging by the silvery hairy leaves. What type of plant is it? It seems to be quite frost reistant so far also.
Unlocked
December 2013 has been a strange month for me with three exhibition hangs to curate, a dissertation draft to submit and degree project images to make. All this without the added drama of other incidents. Good to see Alex getting better though. I cannot begin to understand how he feels but given the stuffing it […]
Vigilant
Tonight, I stepped aboard Vigilant, a Customs Cutter, in Ipswich Dock. One crew member on board served with me on our training crew back in 1978. Chatting in the wheelhouse brought back a wealth of memories of all the good and sometimes bad times I experienced up to July 1981 when I last paid off. […]
Trafalgar – Art at Prettys
This week has been hectic. We opened Trafalgar – the fifth Art at Prettys collaboration on Monday night. As curator, I found myself very busy showing around the Mayor and Mayoress plus the Provost of UCS. The evening was a blur and I ended up having to make a poor impromptu speech that I nearly […]
Strange week
The past week has been full on and utterly exhausting. What with hanging the Trafalgar show at Prettys and the scary incident of a 24 year old fellow student working on the hang suffering a stroke, fitting in a 6 hour shooting day for Edgelands, researching for degree project and dissertation I feel wrung out. […]
Stroke – reaction time
Today has been a sobering one. I was busy on the hang of a new show when one of the team, a 24 year old student exclaimed that he could not feel his left hand. It took all of 5 seconds to work out what was going on. A 999 call and a high speed […]
Edgelands continued
Yesterday saw a full on 6 hours of shooting on large and medium format film. Plenty of Portra 160, 400 and Ektar in the can waiting to be processed. These are HP5+
All I want is a fairy on top now
So, I spent a total of 14 hours perfecting a hang of ‘equals’ work in the UCS Waterfront building over the weekend and Monday this week only to have my work blocked by an Oxfam display then a midwife team going for a record and now to top it all a bloody Christmas tree plonked […]
