I was up before dawn this morning to try and prove my theory of repetitive perches used by territorial Kingfishers. Yesterday I had observed a female and this morning with the tide being that much later I got in position about 2 hours before high water. Was the light dire or what? I sheltered from a stiff easterly and had to up the auto ISO to 12800 to cope with the conditions.
Eventually she turned up. This picture is just before she dived to catch a fish. I have two other images of her swallowing it but they are rather poor. The bird was about 50 yards away under a heavy canopy of foliage.
The afternoon session was so windy that 2 hours saw no regular visits. Rough water is difficult to fish in.
