Yesterday was Trafalgar Day, Mrs O’s birthday, dry rot discovery day (historical) and graduation day for the 2011 intake to UCS. I opted out of the ceremony, it is not my thing and means little to me in terms of the experience of being at university. Mrs O was at work anyway and it was not on her radar either.
The day dawned with awesome predictions of the remnants of hurricane Gonzalo. Sure enough as the day progressed swathes of biblical like deluges interspersed with glorious sunshine swept through Ipswich. One such downpour kept me back between 1400-1500. Not much point getting soaked but it meant I missed some of my classmates milling around the market stalls, an incongruous sight that I have witnessed over the years. As chance would have it, the weather whilst the graduates trooped up to collect their certificates was really rather nice. However, as soon as they assembled outside the wind and rain returned. It was a somewhat slow affair as graduates assembled on the steps of Ipswich Town Hall but my, did they disperse quickly.
I had been asked specifically to photograph Ally Bain a few weeks ago. I was glad I bumped into Alastair Bartlett just after the official photographs. Apologies for missing some of my other chums but time was marching on an I had a birthday dinner to cook.
