PhotoEast opened today.
It is primarily based on and in the environs of the Wet Dock in Ipswich – signature setting for the long term CONTRADICTIONS documentary based on the ever changing aspects of the docklands of the Orwell. Bill Jackson is running sessions at The Cut in Halesworth. If you have dog, get down there and be photographed by one of our most original photographic thinkers in the county.
I had bumped into Blue King who was sizing walls ready for the modern pinhole and comparative Victorian images on Sunday and I bumped into her again this morning as I cycled around the dock looking for the new installations. More really big images had gone up yesterday and there was more to come she said.
I went down later to see the UCS BA(Hons) Photography students work that is part of the festival. It is a very good show this year. Go and take a look.
On the way back I grabbed a few more images of what was going on.
George Georgiou has produced a body of work taken from buses going around Ipswich.
This cafe is a vibrant community cafe frequented by mainly Portuguese people but also many locals. Portugal is England’s oldest ally and Ipswich has always had a big Portuguese community.
Now this really does ring a bell with the message that the three of us are making in our CONTRADICTIONS essay.
There will be more on this wall later. I had to rush though – on my way to the smoke. Good to chat with them about the collaborative efforts with UCS.
I stood and watched for a while from the island. The images on the billboards and the hoarding are attracting much attention.
CONTRADICTIONS Open View is on Sunday at Thornham.
